Assigning icons to roles
An icon role like delete or save names an action, and each role maps to exactly one glyph. In Icons Studio you can bind a glyph to a role by dragging it straight from the icon grid onto the role, without retyping the icon's name.
The role rail
On the Library tab, the role rail sits to the right of the icon grid. It lists the roles in one category at a time. Use the category dropdown at the top of the rail to switch categories.
Icons from the built-in library are draggable. Where you drop one decides what happens. (Custom icon sets you have uploaded are browse-and-copy for now; assigning a glyph from a custom set to a role is not supported yet. Roles take icons from the built-in library.)
Reassign a role's glyph
Drag a built-in icon from the grid onto an existing role row. The role's glyph is replaced with the one you dropped, and the role's icon name updates to match. This is the quick way to swap a role's glyph: drag TrashSimple onto delete and delete now renders TrashSimple.
Create a new role
Drag a built-in icon onto the New role zone at the bottom of the rail. A short inline editor opens, already holding the glyph you dropped. Give the role a name (required) and pick a severity:
- destructive for permanent, non-recoverable actions.
- warning for reversible but consequential actions.
- neutral for everything else (the default).
Then choose Add role. The role is added to the category shown in the rail. You can refine its description and weight later from the role's edit dialog on the Roles tab.
You can also click New role (instead of dragging) to open the same editor with an empty glyph, then drop an icon onto the editor's glyph square.
Add a category
Roles are grouped into categories (destructive, save, navigation, and so on). To add one:
- On the Roles tab, choose Add category, type a name, and press Enter.
- On the Library tab, use the + next to the rail's category dropdown.
A new category starts empty. Drop an icon on New role while it is selected to add your first role to it.
Keyboard and no-drag paths
Dragging is a shortcut, not the only way. The Roles tab keeps the full add and edit dialog, where you set a role's icon by name. Use it whenever you would rather not drag, or when working without a pointer.
Saving
Assigning, creating a role, and adding a category all count as unsaved changes. Use Save to keep a draft, or Publish to make the changes live for your agents. Nothing your agents read changes until you publish.
