Import a content style guide

If you already have a written content style guide, you do not have to retype it. When you first set up Content, choose Import style guide, paste or upload your guide, and preset AI reads it into the five content areas for you to review: voice, terms, patterns, grammar, and worldview. You choose what to bring in; applying fills your studio but does not save it, and nothing reaches your agents until you publish.

You can import at first setup or any time after. On the Content setup screen the Import style guide card opens it; once you have a guide, the studio's File menu has an Import style guide entry that re-opens import over your existing setup.

How it works

  1. Choose Import style guide (the setup card, or File → Import style guide in the studio). The studio opens in import mode.
  2. Paste your guide into the box on the left, or upload a .txt or .md file, then choose Read style guide.
  3. On the right, under What we found, each of the five areas shows what preset AI read from your guide, rendered as your own specimens: trait chips and tone for voice, preferred and forbidden terms, pattern rules, grammar conventions, and a worldview posture.
  4. For each area choose how it comes in (see below), then choose Apply to studio.
  5. The studio switches into the normal editor with the imported areas filled in, as unsaved edits. Review each tab, then Publish when you are ready.

Replace, Merge, or Skip each area

Each area has its own choice, so a re-import never has to be all-or-nothing:

  • Replace overwrites that area with what was read from the guide.
  • Merge keeps everything you already have and adds only the items that are new, matched by name (a term, pattern, or grammar rule with a name you already use is left as-is; voice keeps your name, description, and tone and adds only new traits). Merge shows how many items are new versus already in your guide.
  • Skip leaves the area untouched.

At first setup there is nothing to merge with, so areas offer Replace or Skip. When you re-import over an existing setup, areas you already have default to Merge, so a re-import is non-destructive unless you choose Replace. Worldview is a single posture with nothing to merge into, so it is Replace or Skip only.

Confidence, and why some areas start unchecked

Each area carries a confidence mark based on how much real signal your guide gave it:

MarkMeaning
Filled dotClear signal. Your guide stated this area explicitly.
Half-strength dotPartial signal. A few mentions, worth a look.
Outline dotWeak signal. Little to go on, review closely.

Areas with weak signal, or areas where nothing was found, default to Skip. That is on purpose: a thin, honest result is better than a confident guess. Set the area to Replace or Merge if you want to bring in what was found and edit it.

What preset AI does, and what you review

  • It extracts, it does not invent. preset AI is instructed to report only what your guide states, and to flag anything described but not specified (for example, "use a friendly tone" with no examples) as a gap with lower confidence rather than filling it in. The specimens on the right are its reading of your guide: you review and edit every area, and nothing governs your agents until you publish.
  • It will not force a category. A pattern or grammar rule whose category preset AI cannot match to one of the built-in categories is skipped rather than filed under the wrong one, and the count is shown in that area's notes so you can add it by hand. A term with an unrecognized category is kept, but left uncategorized for you to set.
  • Worldview leans are verified against your guide. Every passage behind a worldview lean is checked to be a word-for-word quote from what you pasted; an unsupported lean is dropped and that axis is left neutral. This verbatim check is specific to worldview. The other four areas are the model's reading of your guide for you to review, not a word-for-word verification.

Notes and limits

  • Import reads one guide at a time. If your guide is very long, import the most important sections and add the rest afterward.
  • A paste that is too short to read as a guide is declined before any work is done, so you are not charged for it.
  • Reading a guide uses AI credits, the same as the other AI actions in the studio. Applying and publishing do not.
