Fragmentation checkpoints

Intents served by more than one component, and presets within an intent that disagree with or repeat each other.

Each checkpoint reports pass, warning, fail or skipped. A finding for a checkpoint links its section on this page.

Intent overlap

One component per intent

fragmentation.intent_overlap.no_duplicates

Intents served by more than one component, such as Dialog and Modal both serving modal. Intents come from the intents config or are inferred from presets.

ResultWhen
PassEvery intent has one component.
WarningSome intents have several, up to half.
FailMore than half of the intents have several.
SkippedNo intents are declared, and none can be inferred from presets.

How to improve. Pick one component per intent and express the differences as presets.

Distinct names across intents

fragmentation.intent_overlap.naming_consistency

Components in different intents whose names look like the same thing: at least 80% similar, or known synonyms such as dialog, modal and popup.

ResultWhen
PassNo such pairs.
Warning1 or 2 pairs.
Fail3 or more pairs.
SkippedNo intents are declared, and none can be inferred from presets.

How to improve. Merge intents whose components serve the same purpose.

Every intent has a preset

fragmentation.intent_overlap.coverage

Intents with no preset.

ResultWhen
PassEvery intent has a preset.
WarningSome do not, up to half.
FailMore than half have none.
SkippedNo intents are declared, and none can be inferred from presets.

How to improve. Create a preset for each uncovered intent.

Prop divergence

No conflicting values within an intent

fragmentation.prop_divergence.no_conflicts

Props that two presets of the same intent set to different values. The score drops 15 points per conflicting prop.

ResultWhen
PassNo conflicts.
Warning1 to 4 conflicting props.
Fail5 or more.
SkippedNo presets were provided.

How to improve. Standardize each conflicting prop across the intent's presets.

Consistent prop signatures within an intent

fragmentation.prop_divergence.signature_consistency

How similar the props of presets in the same intent are, averaged over every pair. A prop both presets set to the same value counts fully, one they set to different values counts 0.3, and one only one of them sets counts nothing. An intent that averages below 50% is flagged.

ResultWhen
PassNo intent is flagged, or every intent has a single preset.
WarningSome intents are flagged, and the overall average is 40% or more.
FailSome intents are flagged, and the overall average is below 40%.
SkippedNo presets were provided.

How to improve. Align prop names and values across the presets of each flagged intent.

No repeated props within an intent

fragmentation.prop_divergence.no_redundant_overrides

Props that every preset of an intent sets to the same value, which could move into a shared base preset. Props an intent declares as defining (definingProps) are expected to be shared and are not counted.

ResultWhen
PassNo such props.
WarningSome, up to half of the props compared.
FailMore than half of the props compared.
SkippedNo presets were provided.

How to improve. Move the shared props into a base configuration.

Consolidation

Consolidation ratio

fragmentation.consolidation.ratio

Components per intent across all intents. The ideal is 1.

ResultWhen
Pass1 or less.
WarningAbove 1, up to 2.
FailAbove 2.
SkippedNo intents are declared, and none can be inferred from presets.

How to improve. Consolidate implementations so each intent has one component.

Distinct variants within an intent

fragmentation.consolidation.variant_coverage

For each intent, whether its presets are meaningfully different. An intent with one preset always qualifies; one with two or more qualifies when at least 80% of its presets differ from each other in component or prop values.

ResultWhen
PassEvery intent qualifies.
WarningSome do not, but at least half of all intents do.
FailFewer than half of all intents do.
SkippedNo presets were provided.

How to improve. Remove duplicate presets, or give them meaningful differences.

Consolidation recommendations

fragmentation.consolidation.recommendations

Fragmented intents: intents with more than one component, plus pairs of intents whose components look like synonyms. Each comes with a recommendation. The score falls 15 points per fragmented intent, and 10 more for each implementation above two on average.

ResultWhen
PassNo fragmented intents.
WarningA score of 40 or more.
FailBelow 40.
SkippedNo intents are declared, and none can be inferred from presets.

How to improve. Follow each recommendation: consolidate to the most used component and keep the others as presets.
